About David

 

David Hammond – Hiking in Wardandi Boodjar

 

David is an experienced Primary School Teacher in his mid-thirties who appreciates the privilege and responsibility of guiding children. The Wanderer of Empire loves traveling between schools, appreciating the little things, and sharing the joy of modern board games with enthusiastic children.

Professional Qualifications

David’s undergraduate studies are in Commerce and Arts. He completed a triple major in Management, Marketing and Political Science at UWA, with sprinklings of ancient history and philosophy.

Deciding to follow his long-held passions after a stint in marketing, he undertook postgraduate study in education. David completed a Master of Teaching (Primary) at UWA in 2012 and began working full-time as a Primary School Teacher in a public school.

During this time he commenced further training in Steiner Education and became a Class Teacher. He has had the distinct pleasure of teaching in Steiner / Waldorf schools since 2015 and continues to enjoy educating children with authenticity, love, and reverence.

David holds current WA Teacher Registration, Police Clearance, Working with Children, and First Aid/ CPR. Empire is gratefully held on kwobardak Noongar boodjar.

Creativity

David is an avid performer. Whether it is poetry, spoken word, or freestyle hip hop, he loves interacting with audiences of all ages and backgrounds. He has spent several years busking around Perth, releasing an album in 2010, and is currently an MC for various events.

David is an enthusiastic visual artist. At University he sold prints of his artwork and began painting with acrylics. In 2020 he trained in both watercolours and pastels with award-winning artists Sue Hibbert and Ian D’Souza. He holds casual workshops to share the joy of painting with adults and students. His retired Dad even caught the fever and has become a keen painter!

 
 

Recently, David learned to play guitar and continues to share his musical passion with students. He enjoys demonstrating lifelong learning and now teaches introductory guitar. He loves playing his classical, acoustic, and electric guitars and is always up for a jam!

Other Interests

David believes wholeheartedly that we should be the change we wish to see in the world. He practices mindfulness and daily meditation, enjoys hiking and bird watching in nature, and loves traveling to exotic places and meeting new people. David struggles with a busy mind, keeping a consistent gym routine, and sometimes watching a few too many episodes of his favourite shows. He wishes there were more hours in the day…
